A Course in Trees, led by Akiva Silver

Learn how to make trees a bigger part of your life with Akiva Silver of Twisted Tree Farm through this hands-on course. Akiva has been passionately studying and working with trees for the last 12 years, including guiding reforestation efforts at EcoVillage Ithaca. His experience ranges from wilderness survival and primitive skills to homesteading, caretaking, tree planting, and propagation. He is bursting with ideas and knowledge to share.

Akiva Silver in winterOnce a month for 12 months on Sundays starting in January from 1 pm- 4:30 pm.  At each meeting we will work on tree identification (the basic skill necessary for all work with trees) in addition to learning a specific skill through hands on work. You can come for one class or sign up for the whole year. The sliding scale cost is $25- 40 per class, or $200- 300 for all 12 classes. January 19th- Fire starting with a match in all weather conditions

February 23rd- Tapping maples

March 30th- Pruning and Grafting

April 27th- Planting

May 4th- Propagation

June 22nd- Rope from bark

July 20th- Baskets from bark

August 31st- Wild fruits (location TBD)

September 28th- Nut collecting and processing (location TBD)

October – More nut collecting and processing (location TBD)

November 9th- Using the grain- splitting for cordwood, rails, and staves

December 14th- Fire making without matches
