Seeking non-smoking, mature, responsible, independent lesbian-friendly woman for a friendly house share within the Ecovillage at Ithaca’s  third neighborhood “TREE”, a cohousing community. Mature communication and financial stability are a must.

The apartment:

Beautiful, new apartment with deck, located on the top (fourth) floor of the TREE common house building, with elevator, fully wheelchair accessible. Space for rent includes freshly painted front bedroom, private bath and shared full kitchen, living room and deck overlooking pond. The bedroom is 10 x 13 and has gorgeous views. Please email me for pictures.

$725/month rent includes high speed Internet, parking space, laundry and ALL utilities. In addition, all residents commit 2 hours/week toward upkeep of the community (see below). Space is available now (last updated August 2017).

The housemate and dog:

I am a Latina lesbian in my mid-50s. I love the beauty, the ponds and trails, and living in this friendly environment. When I’m home from my busy job, I enjoy participating in occasional community activities, connecting with friends and family, as well as quiet “down” time. I enjoy cooking, writing and am a musician. I’m a respectful housemate. I like to share upkeep of a reasonably clean home.

I have a sweet, friendly, young “hypoallergenic” dog who will be ~10 lbs.  I’m currently training her in obedience, and eventually, to be a therapy dog.

Ecovillage at Ithaca:

http://ecovillageithaca.org

Three neighborhoods totaling 100 households, 175 acres of land, a sauna and two swimming ponds, lots of kid play areas both indoors & outdoors, gardening space, a vegetable CSA, a u-pick berry farm, volunteer-run optional community meals every week, many other amenities, and lots of neighborliness. It’s a mix of plenty of privacy and the chance to connect with people when you want to.  (I find it a great place to come home to after a busy day, as well as share with family and friends.)

EcoVillage is a self-governing housing co-op. As a renter, you go through the resident membership process and are encouraged to attend monthly neighborhood meetings. All residents are expected to abide by the decisions of the co-op, much like any other housing complex. Also, all residents do 2-4 hours per week of community work (for example, cleaning community areas, or helping with the community meals). It sounds like a chore but always feels good to do; it’s good way to meet people, and we each benefit from the work done by the other 200+ people who live in the village. The daily benefits of community definitely outweigh your individual effort to create it. Surrounded by this beauty, I often feel like we are getting to live at a resort we help create.
